Get Healthy on a Budget in The New Year

It’s early in a New Year and that means many of us are working on new goals. Are you one of the many who have set a fitness goal for yourself? If so, you may be looking for ways to get healthy on a budget this year.

According to Statistic Brain “lose weight” is the No. 1 goal set by people every year. According to List 25, “lose weight” and “exercise” are also on the list of the most commonly broken goals. So how can we change that  pattern?

One way is by finding ways to get healthy on a budget. Sometimes people fail to achieve their goals because they can’t afford to do the things they believe they need to do to accomplish that goal. What if we told you that you can stay active, lose weight and eat healthy without spending a dime?

Track Your Calories with the My Fitness Pal App

Fitness experts and doctors say the only sure fire way to lose weight is to burn off more calories than you take in. How can you do this if you don’t know how many calories are in the food you eat?

My Fitness Pal is a free website and app that tracks your calorie intake as well as calories burned from exercise. It also tracks your recommended sugar and carb intake on a daily basis. Track your calories anywhere, anytime and ensure you’re reaching your fitness goals this year.

Engaging Workouts on the Cheap

Let’s face it, exercise can be boring. And when faced with a long treadmill session, some of us would rather just give up. Sure, group fitness classes are more engaging and fun, but they also tend to be expensive.

Did you know that the internet is full of free or low-cost fitness videos? A quick search of YouTube will turn up dozens of videos to match the workout of your choice.

And if you’re looking for a high-quality library of workouts to choose from, there are many options to fit your need without spending a lot of money. Here are just a few ranging from $10 to $20 per month, which is much less than you would pay at a fitness studio:

Find Free Healthy Recipes

If you could find cheap ways to stay healthy, would you be more likely to stick to your diet? I think the answer for most of us is yes. This is especially true when it comes to food because eating healthy can be expensive — but it doesn’t have to be.

There’s no need to spend money on cookbooks when you can go online. Websites like Eating Well and All Recipes offer free recipes for every budget.

Consider Fitness Podcasts

A quick search of your podcast app will yeild dozens of options. Whether you are looking for healthy eating tips, workout podcasts, meditation podcasts or anything in between, there is something for you! And bonus, podcasts are a free alternative to a gym membership. Just pop in some earbuds and hit the trail or go for a walk.
