Budget-Friendly Spa Treatments at Home

You don’t need the spa to relax on a budget.

A day at the spa might sound lovely. But, with treatments ranging anywhere from $30 to $200 or more, the luxury is out of the question for most Americans.

The good news is that booking an appointment at some high-end establishment isn’t the only way to relax. In fact, there are plenty of ways to indulge in budget-friendly spa treatments.

Here are five ways to pamper yourself, or someone you love, without spending a fortune:

Epsom Salt Foot Bath

For years, Epsom salts have been the go-to ingredient for soaks to loosen stiff muscles and joints. For bargain hunters, it’s an inexpensive ingredient too. You can pick up a bag at a big box store for less than $5.

Popular with athletes and those on their feet all day, the age-old remedy for aching feet is simple. In a basin of very warm water (but not so hot that it will burn your skin), mix in a half cup of Epsom salt. Once it’s mixed together, sit back, relax and let your feet soak for about 20 minutes.

You can rub away any dry spots with a pumice stone, recommends SaltWorks, a premium salt company. Once time is up, dry off your feet and moisturize them with your favorite lotion.

Shower Therapy

Make those minutes in the shower even more relaxing by adding a few drops of an essential oil. Just take a washcloth, get it wet and drop three to five drops of an essential oil on it.

Hop in the shower and put the washcloth on your chest. Or, place the washcloth in the corner of the shower. Eventually, your shower will be filled with the relaxing scent of the essential oil. Close your eyes and breathe it in.

The Aroma Blog recommends various scents depending on your mood. You can pick up a small bottle of an essential oil for about $5 at a big box store.

Body Scrub

There’s nothing like a body scrub to slough off dry skin and make you feel fabulous. And, at home, you can mix up one for next to nothing.

With simple ingredients that include sugar, salt, olive oil, honey and even coffee, the Living the Nourished Life blog shares 21 recipes for homemade scrubs.

At-Home Face Masks

At the store, a tube or jar of face mask can run you $10 or more. But, all you need are a few ingredients you probably already have in your home to make a face mask for a tenth of that cost.

Reader’s Digest featured nine face mask recipes that include everything from ripe bananas to vinegar, oatmeal and even mustard.

Cuticle Cream

If a manicure isn’t in the financial cards, try this recipe for cuticle cream that requires just honey, oil and beeswax from ThirtyHandMadeDays.com. You can pick up beeswax at most craft stores for less than $10. The rest of the ingredients are probably already in your kitchen.

In today’s busy, stressful world, it’s important we all take time to care for ourselves, our bodies and our minds.  With these budget-friendly spa treatments, the occasional indulgence is possible. It’s time to treat yourself!
